Songkran Thai Festival Returns to the DMV on April 14th

Songkran Thai festival takes place on Sunday, April 14th from 9am until 4pm at Wat Thai Washington DC (13440 Layhill Rd. Silver Spring, MD). The festival will feature Thai food, Thai cultural shows, and Thai souvenirs.

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year’s Day. All Thais often perform many auspicious ceremonies on this day. The day also presents an opportunity to pay respect to and remember parents, relatives, teachers, and others.

Parking: Parking at Barrie School and Glenmont Metro Station. Wat Thai Washington, D.C. will provide shuttle buses to pick up and drop off at the Glenmont Metro parking lot area between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Program information below:

7.00 a.m. Breakfast served to the monks

9.00 a.m. Pouring of lustral water to honor the Buddha

Food and merchandise stands open

10.00 a.m. Religious ceremony

10.15 a.m. Memorial service and sermon by the Abbot

Luang Ta Chi

10.30 a.m. Offering of food to the monks

11.00 a.m. Lunch served to the monks

11.30 a.m. Thai New Year Parade begins

12.30 p.m. – Pour water on the hands of revered elders and ask for blessing
