According to a press release regarding the upcoming lecture series hosted by the Gaithersburg Community Museum, “there is evidence that 2024 will turn out to be the “Year of the Cicada.” There are many cicada landmarks this year, and it is the first time since 1803 that broods 13 and 17 will co-emerge.”
More about this phenomenon will be the subject of a free lecture, led by area naturalist and historian Clarence Hickey, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, in Gaithersburg. The event is part of a lecture series hosted by the Gaithersburg Community Museum in partnership with Saints Row Brewing. The series explores local history and science. The event will be held at Saints Row, which is located at 15 Fulks Corner Ave, Suite 101-102, in Gaithersburg. Limited parking is available on site and additional parking is located at the Parking Garage across Olde Towne Avenue.

The lecture series will continue on Wednesday, May 8, will be on “Civil War Beer Tokens.” During the Civil War numerous brewers issued cent-sized tokens that not only advertised their beers, but were used to alleviate the shortage of coins during the conflict.
