MCPS noted that there will not be an early release for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. The school system shared the following on social media Friday afternoon, “FYI, MCPS community. There will be no early release for the solar eclipse.”

Many individual schools have sent communication to the communities with plans for dismissal during the eclipse. A couple days ago, MCPS addressed the solar eclipse via social media and in its staff bulletin advising staff, students, and families to practice eclipse safety:
Via social media: “On Monday, April 8, we will experience a partial solar eclipse beginning approximately 2:04 p.m. with maximum solar coverage at approximately 3:20 p.m. Since the eclipse will occur around school dismissal times, staff, students and families should practice eclipse safety when outdoors.
