The MCPS Student Leadership & Extracurricular Activities Unit hosted the second annual Next Generation Leadership Day earlier this month (Saturday, April 6) at Wheaton High School.

Nearly 500 fourth and fifth grade students from across all elementary schools in the district participated in a leadership conference. MCPS shared that “students engaged in workshops created by and led by trained secondary student leaders. These workshop aimed to:

  • Build the confidence, empathy, and leadership capacity of the student leaders;
  • Expose student leaders to multiple areas of leadership and advocacy;
  • Practice public speaking, teambuilding, goal setting;
  • Provide student leaders with a space to connect with other district student leaders.

The elementary student leaders enjoyed a day of leader learning that would not have been possible without the support of the Montgomery County Educational Foundation who donated to the program.”
