Gaithersburg Participates in the National League of Cities Centennial ‘Roadshow’

The City of Gaithersburg recently participated as an official stop on the National League of Cities (NLC) Centennial Roadshow: 100 Years, 100 Cities. The roadshow, organized by NLC, includes stops at 100 cities in every region of the country, aimed at spotlighting the diversity, resilience, and transformation of America’s local communities.

The City of Gaithersburg announced today that on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the roadshow made its stop in the City’s historic Olde Towne neighborhood. During the visit, elected officials, City staff, and NLC representatives toured the Gaithersburg Community Museum, Victor Litz, and the new Police Station and Council Chambers at 16 South Summit Avenue. The tour also included a stop at 12 South Summit Avenue, which will be converted to a new City Hall.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: In celebration of the NLC’s 100^th anniversary, Mayor Jud Ashman presented an official proclamation declaring April 16, 2024 as “National League of Cities Day” in the City of Gaithersburg. “The City of Gaithersburg is excited and proud to be a part of the NLC’s Centennial Roadshow celebration,” said Mayor Jud Ashman. “We thank the NLC for its partnership and recognize its tremendous impact on the City.”

This initiative is part of NLC’s year-long celebration, marking a century of commitment to advancing local government and advocating for the interests of cities, towns and villages nationwide. The roadshow kicked off in February at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where the NLC was founded. Over the next several months, the roadshow will tour coast-to-coast, stopping in cities of all sizes to showcase the unique stories of municipalities like the City of Gaithersburg.

As the journey progresses, the roadshow will continue making stops in cities across the country, including Tampa, Florida, where NLC will host its annual City Summit conference and culminating event this November.
