MCPS to Livestream Winners of Awards at Upcoming Event on May 1

MCPS will be livestreaming its Champions for Children Event on May 1 that will announce the winners of the school system’s Teacher of the Year and Supporting Services Employee of the Year awards while recognizing the winners of other awards.

Per MCPS: The 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year finalists are: Janie Earle, kindergarten teacher at Poolesville Elementary School; Carrie Kraynak, English Language Development teacher at Flower Hill Elementary School; Morgan Patel, social studies teacher at Montgomery Blair High School; and Melissa Porter Parks, English Language Development teacher at Gaithersburg High School.

The year’s signature event will also see the naming of this year’s Supporting Services Employee of the Year. The three finalists for that award are: Chaula Butterworth, paraeducator, Farmland Elementary School; Robin McCue, administrative secretary III, Department of Athletics, and Bruno Smith, building service manager III, Mill Creek Towne Elementary School.

The celebration will also recognize Rising Star Teacher of the Year, Danielle Gover, chorus teacher at Westland Middle School, and Margarita Bohórquez, director of International Admissions and Enrollment, who won the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision.

Police Chief Marcus Jones will be honored as Community Champion for Children, and Farron Riggs, paraeducator and baseball coach at Rockville High School, will be honored with the R.A.I.S.E. Champion of the Year award.
