Gaithersburg: State of the City


Mayor Jud Ashman and members of the City Council hosted the 2024 State of the City address on Thursday, April 18, at Asbury Methodist Village.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: More than  130 guests attended the reception and presentation, including civic partners who serve on City boards, commissions & committees, elected officials, community leaders, and others whose involvement is invaluable to the Gaithersburg community. The event also featured remarks by Junior Mayor Milly Abdo.

Mayor Ashman’s address featured several stories that focused on the City’s core values – accountability, caring, excellence, integrity, and teamwork – and commitment to the Gaithersburg community. The Mayor’s address is available here. Council Vice President Jim McNulty delivered the Mayor’s address.

The State of the City event serves as the platform for the presentation of the City’s annual Distinguished Resident, Outstanding Organization, and Distinguished Friend awards.

The Distinguished Friend Award was presented to Carolyn Camacho,  program director for Identity, for supporting the Gaithersburg Coalition of Providers, and the Youth Opportunities Coalition. The Outstanding Organization Award was presented to Soroptimist International of Upper Montgomery County in recognition of its contributions to the Gaithersburg community. Carmen Castro-Conroy, Associate Director, of the Montgomery County Office, Housing Initiative Partnership, and City volunteer, was named the 2024 Distinguished Resident.
