The Block Food Hall, which featured “various unique Asian eateries in an upbeat community-focused setup with a bar, sports on TV, and weekend DJs nightlife,” at 967 Rose Ave in North Bethesda has closed as doors were locked with most of the space cleared out on Sunday.
Rumors that The Block would be closing began surfacing back in January. In recent months, vendors had been leaving at a steady pace. Little Miner Tacos, one of the last remaining tenants, has relocated to a pop-up kitchen at 12712 Rock Creek Mill Rd AA in Rockville while it waits for construction to be completed at its upcoming stand alone location at Rockville Town Square. We will provide an update if any additional Block vendors reopen at new locations.
Last spring, The Block temporarily halted the sale of alcohol for several weeks. When it resumed the sale of alcohol, it no longer stayed open past 10pm, essentially ending the nightlife aspect of the venue.
In the past few months we were unable to get any comment on the situation from representatives of the food hall. We have been told by various sources that a Japanese Izakaya may be next for the space, but have been unable to confirm. The site is currently listed as TBD on the Federal Realty listing page.
There is an additional The Block location in a Annandale, VA who told us in March that they were no longer affiliated with the Pike & Rose location.
