10 MoCo Properties to be Featured on 2024 Maryland House & Garden Pilgrimage

The Maryland House & Garden Pilgrimage of Montgomery County Will host what they are referring to as “one of the most ambitious events in the 94-year history of MHGP tours.” The tour, which will take place from 10am-5pm on May 18, will include
10 properties and buildings spanning more than 300 years of age.

Founded in 1930, the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Maryland’s cultural and historically significant properties and landscapes. Many of the properties selected for the 2024 tour of Montgomery County date to the 18th and 19th centuries, including the Milton Loughborough House in Bethesda. Sited at the end of dead-end Allandale Road, the former tavern and stagecoach stop was built circa 1700 and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975.

The MoCo tour also includes properties on the other end of the age spectrum, including the Glenstone Museum, opened in 2006, and the Signal Tree House, an 18-year-old replica of a centuries-old Italian villa.

Having seen all of the properties personally, I can say that the Signal Tree House is truly magnificent,” said Mr. Scott. “The home has been in many magazines through the years and was featured in the Washington Post just this past weekend.

Another tour highlight will be the availability of a home-cooked fried-chicken luncheon served at the historic Scotland community on Seven Locks Road. The families of Scotland, which was the first place that people of color owned land in Potomac, will be asking for a $20 donation per meal at the Bette Carol Thompson Neighborhood Recreation Center at 7700 Scotland Drive.

“We were deeply honored to be chosen as the hosting beneficiaries of the House and Garden Pilgrimage for the first time since 2010,” said Bernard Scott, the event’s co-chairperson. He is a member of the Scotland African Methodist Episcopal Church on Seven Locks Road in Potomac, where he was married 55 years ago. The 100-year-old church structure is being repaired and expanded after a 2019 flood. “We think tour goers will be truly impressed by the lineup of truly amazing destinations that our organizing team has put together.”

Tickets for access to all properties are available for $41.75 online, or for $40 at Good Earth Garden Market at 11650 Falls Road in Potomac. Tickets will be available for $45 on the day of the tour at most tour locations. For a complete list of MoCo House & Garden Pilgrimage destinations, visit the MHGP website.
