Public Invited to Provide Input on Renovations at McKnew Local Park in Burtonsville

Montgomery Parks is inviting the public to a virtual community meeting about the future of McKnew Local Park in Burtonsville.

During the meeting, park designers will discuss an upcoming two-phase renovation of McKnew Local Park, located at 14901 Saddle Creek Drive in Burtonsville.

Phase one of the renovation focuses on the existing playground and picnic area.  The current playground will be replaced with new play structures and equipment, and a covered seating area. Construction of that phase is projected to start this summer.

Phase two will improve other areas of the park including tennis and basketball courts, the parking lot, a loop trail, and adult exercise equipment. In both phases, planners will work to improve stormwater management and landscaping.

“McKnew is a large, local park with lots of amenities, serving residents of the surrounding neighborhood,” said Montgomery Parks Landscape Architect Wen Huang. “The public’s input will help us create a rejuvenated park that will provide decades more enjoyment for people of all ages.”

The renovations will preserve a large open green space that can be used for recreation. The adjacent McKnew Conservation Park, which includes approximately 94 acres of undeveloped woodland, will remain untouched.
