“Gaithersburg High School Community –
With very mixed emotions, I am writing to announce that I will be retiring from the Montgomery County Public School system, effective July 1, 2024.
It has truly been a privilege and an honor to serve the amazing Gaithersburg community for the past six years. I am incredibly proud of our students and staff, as we have celebrated many achievements during our time together, including academic growth in a number of our student performance categories, accomplishments by our NJROTC program and our Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, recognitions within our Athletics & Fine Arts programs, and accomplishments by Gaithersburg High School staff, who received National Board Certifications & Re-Certifications, as well as many other notable MCPS awards and recognitions. Our Gaithersburg staff have worked tirelessly to develop students who are excelling in the MCPS Dual Enrollment Programs, Advanced Placement courses, within our English Language Development program, and in an overall inclusive environment, where students celebrate their culture, heritage, and individual learning styles. These achievements are also testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of the entire Gaithersburg school community.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Gaithersburg High School teachers and staff, whose unwavering commitment to our students and families has been truly inspiring. I want to also thank our incredible students, whose enthusiasm and pride for being “a Trojan” motivated me every day to help you grow your gifts and reach the potential that lives within each of you. And lastly, thank you to our amazing parents, guardians, and caregivers for your dedication to your children’s education; I greatly appreciate all you do to support GHS.
While I may be retiring from MCPS, I look forward to a new challenge in my life, as beginning July 3, 2024, I will assume a principalship within the Fairfax County (VA) Public School system. While I am confident that the Gaithersburg community will continue to thrive under the guidance of a new principal, I am committed to working closely with our MCPS Office of School Support and Well Being and my successor to ensure a smooth transition, and to provide any necessary assistance during this period. The next step in the process to find a new principal is for MCPS to advertise the position. Our Director of School Support and Well-Being, Ms. Nicole Sosik, will be in communication with our staff and PTSA to ensure that community input is included in the selection and interview process.
I am filled with pride and gratitude for the opportunity to have served as the principal of Gaithersburg High School and am excited to see the continued success of Gaithersburg High School; I will always be a proud member of this exceptional Trojan community.
Sincerely,
Cary Dimmick
Principal”
