
FOX 5 DC’s Tom Fitzgerald reported on Tuesday that Montgomery County executive Marc Elrich will name Yamada as the new Montgomery County Police Chief in a weekly briefing on Wednesday.
Yamada is a MoCo native and graduate of Wheaton High School who has served as a Montgomery County police officer since 1988 and has worked in all four bureaus in the police department. He served as a captain in the 4th District (Wheaton) prior to being named Assistant Chief in 2021.
After a career spanning 38-years, Chief Marcus G. Jones announced his retirement from the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) back in January, effective Monday, July 1, 2024.
