Gaining admission to a top college is increasingly more difficult. Universities are experiencing higher volumes of applicants while accepting less and less students. Giving your child every advantage is important now more than ever before.
According to experts, the #1 academic extracurricular activity for college admissions is the debate team.
Minh A. Luong, professor in the Ethics, Politics, & Economics Program at Yale University analyzed research of all major extracurricular activities and their impact on college admissions. Luong found that even without winning major awards, debaters stood a 4% better chance of being admitted to college than similar non-debaters. Winning a state or other major award in debate improves an applicant’s chances by at least 22%. Luong concluded that debate has a significantly higher improvement in college admissions than any other academic extracurricular activity.
