The MoCo Football Clinic hosted by the 480 Club in partnership with MCPS Out of School Time completed a successful camp serving more than 160 children on May 14th, 2024 ( Election Day). Though the camp sold out at 200 registrations, rainy conditions throughout the day led to the camp ending early, Joseph Hooks of 480 Club tells us.
Children from all over the county, boys and girls, beginners and those with experience, attended and received a free UnderRated t-shirt- the clothing line of Quince Orchard alumnus Marquez Cooper who recently committed to San Diego State. The camp delivered skills and drill development by MCPS graduates and MVSA Chiefs alumni such as Kaden Prather (UMD), Dominique Perry (Cincinnati), Harold Miles (Rhode Island), Paul Tangelo (Saint Francis), Donovan Brown (Syracuse), Wesley McCormick (WVU), Dejaun Cooper (South Dakota State), Isiah Williams (Central Connecticut) and more.
The camp’s mission was to promote football and its opportunities at all levels or locations. Coach Joseph Hooks was successful in working with the following local vendors who support football in the area (i9 sports, Moco Recreation, Adventist HealthCare, Coached By Plez, White Oak Warriors, Rehab2Perform & MVSA Chiefs) along with political advocates such as D39 Delegate Wims, Councilmember Laurie- Ann Sayles, and the Montgomery County Collaboration Council to view and engage with the parents and youth for the goal of future opportunities with the 480 Club and Out of School time lead by Jennifer Strouble.
Coach Hooks also tells us he appreciates the engagement by the Montgomery County Police Officer Marcus Dixon & Rockville Police Officer Derrick Tibbs. “The 480 Club’s overall goal is to bring all youth together to learn how to play , where to play and show the county we need more out of school play programs & funding to serve the youth and families in Montgomery County.”
