Where Did You Used to Buy Your Event Tickets?

By Ben Shlesinger

With the Department of Justice suing Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation, for “monopolizing markets across the live concert industry,” I wanted to take a look back at where I used to buy my tickets here in Montgomery County.

Today there is only one full-service Ticketmaster ticket seller in Montgomery County. Can you guess where it is… The Fillmore in Silver Spring. But before the ubiquity of the internet and cellphone apps, there were tons of places all over the county to grab tickets to a highly coveted sports game or concert.

The main one for me was Tower Records in Rockville but there were other, smaller record/CD stores I’d go to in an effort to beat the crowds for HFStival tickets. I also remember making my dad drive me to Hecht’s at Montgomery Mall to get tickets to see the Bullets after Chris Webber was traded and paired with Juwon Howard. I was certain an NBA title was to follow. Alas, Hecht’s is gone and so are in-person ticket counters.
