Lisa Loeb was born in Bethesda and lived here for a couple years before moving to Dallas, TX where she was raised. 30 years ago, her career began with her number one single “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites. It’s also the first Billboard number one single for an artist without a recording contract. Later in her career, Loeb achieved two additional top 20 singles with “Do You Sleep?” in 1996 and “I Do” in 1998. Her studio albums include two back-to-back albums that were certified gold: Tails and Firecracker.
In a 2017 WTOP interview when Lisa Loeb and Paula Cole were performing at AMP by Strathmore in Pike & Rose, Loeb briefly described her time here in MoCo. “My dad’s a doctor and he was doing some training there in Bethesda, so that’s where I was born. I have a vague memory of allergies and cherry blossoms from D.C. but I was like 2 years old. But I feel a connection to it, I can’t help it. That’s where I was born!”
Loeb has also had a career in film, television and voice-over work, which includes guest starring roles in the season finale of Gossip Girl, and two episodes, including the series finale, of Netflix’s Fuller House. She also starred in two other television series, Dweezil & Lisa, a weekly culinary adventure for the Food Network that featured her alongside Dweezil Zappa, and Number 1 Single on E! Entertainment Television. She has acted in films that include House on Haunted Hill, Fright Night, Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and Helicopter Mom.
