About KEEN: KEEN Greater DC is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides free-of-charge, one-to-one recreational activities to children and young adults with all types of disabilities in ways that allow them to build self-esteem and self-confidence. Volunteers are the heart of KEEN.

While KEEN’s regular activities take place at different sites throughout Greater Washington, DC, and Baltimore, the Sports Festival is the one time each year for all KEEN participants to celebrate in person as a single group.

KEEN Greater DC’s mission is to empower youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness and fun, led by volunteer coaches. From five children in a local gym in 1992, KEEN has grown to now serve close to 500 young people with disabilities in the DC area through 65 monthly session such as gym-based sports, dance, fitness, swimming, and bowling. Each month, KEEN Greater DC matches a trained volunteer coach one-to-one with an athlete, enabling every child – especially those with significant disabilities – to play, exercise, socialize, and to be part of a team in their community.
