For the first time in Montgomery County’s history, the annual Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival will light up the night sky with fireworks on Juneteenth, in celebration of Emancipation Day.
“On June 19th, join us for an entire day of performances, attractions, and special events at Cabin John Park. Starting at 11:00 AM, Cabin John Park will transform into a Children’s Caribbean Carnival, featuring food trucks, rides, attractions, and much more!” You can view the full schedule of events here (and below for 6/19).
“As the day comes to a close, we’ll light up the night sky with a spectacular fireworks display at Shirley Povich Field at 9:30 PM, just a short walk from the Carnival. The fireworks display will take place from 9:30-9:45 PM. However, we encourage attendees to arrive early to secure their preferred viewing location. Starting at 6:00 PM, enjoy food courts, music, and merchandise for purchase, allowing you to lounge and “tailgate” before the fireworks begin.”
Transportation: Limited parking spots are available at Povich Field. Shuttle services will transport attendees to and from Povich Field and Walter Johnson High School parking lots. Shuttles will also run between the Children’s Carnival and Bells Mill Elementary School, Cabin John Middle School, and Winston Churchill High School. A trail connects the Children’s Carnival to the fireworks site; refer to our Festival Map for trail specifics. Please refer to our Festival Map for trail details.
Viewing Sites: There are several designated viewing sites available for the fireworks display:
-
Field 2: Blankets only.
-
Tennis Courts: Blankets and chairs allowed.
-
Grassy Areas Blankets and chairs allowed.
What to Bring: We encourage attendees to bring any items needed to ensure comfort during their time at the festival grounds. If you forget something, essential items will be available for purchase at our merchandise stands.
