Three Lanes of I-495 May Remain Closed Through Morning Commute Due to Crash that Injured Six and Killed One

Alert Montgomery has sent out a notification stating that the “collision reconstruction investigation is blocking the three left lanes of the Inner Loop of I-495 at Exit 31 (Georgia Ave/MD 97). This may persist through the morning commute. Seek alternate route.” following an early morning crash.

Earlier this morning we reported that Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a multi-vehicle collision at approximately 2:45am on Wednesday, June 5.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident occurred on the inner loop of I-495, between Connecticut Ave and Georgia Ave, in the area of Exit 31A. EMS evaluated seven trauma patients, which included one fatality.

Per Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination: “Multi-Vehicle Crash with Injury. I-495 EB (Inner Loop) at MD-97 (Exit 31). Mont Co, MD. All travel lanes remain blocked from overnight incident. Inner Loop traffic is diverted to MD-97. Delays are building on IL and OL. An extended closure is expected, thru morning rush hour.”
