A $5 million project replacing the MD 17 (Burkittsville Road) bridge over Middle Creek near Middletown in Frederick County is halfway complete.
According to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), the bridge was constructed in 1923 and widened in 1958. The concrete superstructure neared the end of its useful service life and is in the process of being replaced. During construction, traffic has been reduced to one lane across the bridge located between Quebec School Road and Countryside Drive to ensure motorist and work zone safety. Traffic signals were installed at both ends of the bridge and motorists in both directions will alternate travel across the bridge.
MDOT shared a drone photo (featured image) of the MD 17 bridge project in Frederick County that shows the new concrete bridge deck on the northbound lane. “MDOT SHA will make every effort to minimize impacts on the traveling public. Each side of the bridge will take approximately nine months to complete.” The project is expected to finish in fall 2024.
