Metro to Host Inaugural Community ‘Metro Fest’ Celebration

For the first time, Metro is inviting transit lovers across the region to come together for a family-friendly celebration. Metro Fest is a community event open to the public at no cost. The event will include arts and crafts, games, entertainment, snacks, water, and Metro-branded giveaways.

Per WMATA: Metro will host a series of community events this summer, beginning with Metro Fest. The goal for these events is to connect with the region in a fun way and educate transit-enthusiasts of all ages about the value of transit in our communities.

The inaugural Metro Fest event is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, at the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. “Our employees get to engage the public in little moments every day, but we are so excited to have a fun, dedicated time to show what we do and interact with the public,” said General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. “This is an opportunity for our community members to take a closer look at the vehicles, people, and processes that move our region.”

The event is open to all ages. Family-friendly activities will be available, including face painting, a 360-photo booth, and a live DJ. The event will also include tables with information about Metro programs and services.

Metro vehicles and equipment will be on-site for tours and photos (where feasible). Metro enthusiasts will have a chance to tour vehicles like the historic Rosa Parks bus, the new electric bus, Metro’s fire truck, MTPD’s bomb squad vehicle, track and structure equipment, and more.
