A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for just about the entire area to the east of the Blue Ridge through 11 PM, including the entire DMV.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “damaging winds are expected to be the primary threat.” This morning the NWS shared that most of the area was in the “slight risk” category for severe weather:
“A hot and muggy day today with highs in the low to mid 90s for most. Those along and east of I-81 are in a Slight Risk for severe weather with the rest of the area in a Marginal Risk. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary hazards with a brief tornado possible.” Featured photo courtesy of NWS.
