The National Weather Service (NWS) has shared that drought a moderate drought continues across much of the region despite some locations seeing showers and thunderstorms over the last 48 hours.
Per the NWS, many locations ended up in the top 5 for the driest Junes on record. Unfortunately, dry & hot conditions look to continue well into July. June Top 5 Driest On Record:
Dulles Airport (VA)-0.69″ (2nd Driest On Record) Reagan Airport (VA)-1.15″ (4th Driest On Record) Charlottesville, VA- 0.71″ (3rd Driest On Record)
Limited precipitation and well above normal temperatures look to continue through mid-July furthering drought concerns.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) chief spokesperson Pete Piringer warns, “Be careful w/ open flames today! Potential outdoor ELEVATED FIRE DANGER WEATHER forecasted Fires can spread rapidly w/ dry conditions & winds Outside FIRE DANGER, If you see smoke or fire in brush/wooded areas, Call 911. Sooner @mcfrs FFs can respond to contain a fire, the better”
