Utility Worker Dies After Electrocution on Tuesday

One person has been pronounced dead after an incident involving a contractor bucket making contact with power lines on Tuesday, July 9 in Ashton, MD.

According to Montgomery County Police, “On Tuesday, July 9, at approximately 11:59 a.m., 4th District officers were called to the 200 block of Ashburn Road for a report of an electrocution. Upon arrival, they found a 39-year-old male utility worker who had died at the scene. The Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division is investigating, which is standard procedure for all death investigations.

This remains an active scene, and roads in the area are closed. More information will be released as it becomes available, including the name of the decedent following proper notification of next of kin.”

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Spokesperson David Pazos, a worker in a Verizon truck was electrocuted when the truck’s bucket made contact with power lines.

Ashton Road is currently closed between New Hampshire Avenue and Ligon Lane. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
