Now Open: Empress Coffee
Empress Coffee & Cocktails is now open at 325 Main St. The new coffee shop has taken over the space that was most recently home to Brew House Kentlands, which closed after being open for a little over a year. The space was also the previous home of Clear Skies Meadery, which opened its new meadery at 15201 Display Ct in Rockville.

For now, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, sandwiches, Persian pizza, beer, wine, and more are available at the shop. The cocktails will be coming soon, following a few licenses needed to serve them. They also offer live music with more info on their instagram account, @empresscoffeecocktails.

Closing: Good Fortune Cafe
Good Fortune Cafe, which has been serving the area since 1994 (according to its website), will be closing at the end of August. The restaurant, located at 237 Kentlands Place in the Beacon Place shopping center (same strip as Giant), initially had a bigger space before downsizing to its current space in the early 2000s. A representative from the restaurant informed us earlier this month that their lease would be expiring at the end of August and they couldn’t agree to new terms.

Fans of the restaurant, which offers Chinese cuisine, sushi, and Thai cuisine, may be happy to hear that the restaurant will look for a new space. As of now, there is nothing to report about the next possible location if it was to reopen elsewhere.

Coming Soon: Häagen-Dazs
Häagen-Dazs is coming 211 Market St W, in the space previously occupied by Bel Pre Family Dental.  Häagen-Dazs stores offer “irresistible creations made with Haagen-Dazs super-premium ice cream and sorbet.” The ice cream brand has seen a resurgence as of late, opening new shops across the country with fun giveaways at the grand opening celebrations. Recent openings have offered free mini cups or cones for the first 500 guests, scratch-off cards to win free ice cream for a year, and more. We will provide an update if a grand opening event is announced for this location.

Häagen-Dazs currently has additional Montgomery County locations at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and at 1516 Rockville Pike. The brand closed its Bethesda Row store in the summer of 2021 after about a decade of business at the location.

Permanent signage is up for Prime IV Hydration and Wellness, which will be located between Vine Alley and Neal’s Bagels. Prime IV offers treatments And IV infusions provided by medically licensed staff to help with hydration, athletic performance, anti-aging, hangover recovery, weight management, immunity boosts, altitude sickness, jet lag recovery, and more. Prime IV opened its first Montgomery County location at 4923 Elm Street Bethesda, the former home of arts & crafts shop All Fired Up.

StretchLab offers consumers more ways to reduce their risk of injury, regain mobility, improve flexibility and range of motion, and reclaim their freedom. When the locations are ready to open, StretchLab usually gives away free demo stretches to the first 200 guests locally and plans other giveaways, swag bags, and festivities around the opening.

Closed: Takorean
TaKorean has closed its Kentlands location after a little more than a year at 261 Kentlands Blvd. The Korean taco grill took over the space that was home to Nalley Fresh and opened on May 4, 2023. Permanent signage has already been removed and a note on the window states the following:“To our guests, We have made the difficult decision to close our TaKorean location at the Kentlands. We appreciate all of the support we received from the community here and hope you visit us at our DC locations soon. – TaKorean Team”

The restaurant offers Korean style tacos and bowls with options including chicken/Dak Halbi, steak/Bulgogi, pork/Bo Ssam, and tofu/Hoisin. This was TaKorean‘a first location outside of D.C. Locations remain open at Union Market and The Yards DC. No word yet on what’s next for the space.

Coming Soon- Quincy’s Clubhouse: Last summer, we reported that Quincy’s had officially signed a lease to bring its new concept, Quincy’s Club House, to 245 Kentlands Blvd. The country club style restaurant, bar, and golf venue will be taking over the location that was recently home to Not Your Average Joe’s. While there have not been many updates over the past year, the restaurant does have its liquor license hearing with the Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services on August 1, 2024.

Quincy’s was approached by a golf professional who will run the golf-side of things. TrackMan, is the system that will be used for golf games, lessons, practice, and more. It will allow also for leagues that would provide customers with the experience of playing against people all across the world or country. Existing venues like Five Iron Golf (nearby locations in Baltimore and DC and many more across the country) have similar offerings on the golf-side and  Quincy’s Club House will allow you to play against their members as well.

Non-golfers need not worry, as Quincy’s Club House will also be home to a full-service restaurant and bar. The restaurant will offer a full-service breakfast during the week and a “heavy brunch” on weekends. New cocktails and higher end wine will also be available through the bar in addition to the regular drink menu. A deli featuring Boar’s Head items will be available and the dinner menu will offer a variety of steak, seafood, pastas and more.

Leagues, memberships, and even club-fittings and private lessons will be a part of the offerings. A private simulator area for businesses and other organizations to participate in team-building activities or hold special events will also be available. Each of the simulators will have couches, tvs (so you can watch games or even talk to people you’re playing against) and the ability to choose between a driving range, or simulated course from across the world. An opening timeframe has not yet been announced.
