Suspect Arrested in Connection to Fatal Hit-and-Run

Montgomery County Police have announced that detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) have arrested and charged 34-year-old Efrain Diaz Romero of Silver Spring with the death of 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Rojas Rojas was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on University Boulevard East. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Silverado fled the scene immediately.

During the investigation, police detectives located the Chevrolet and identified Diaz Romero as the suspect who killed Rojas Rojas. Romero was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, along with several other traffic-related charges. He is being held without bond.
