The City of Gaithersburg’s Department of Public Works is replacing the playground at Lakelands Park. The playground equipment at Lakelands Park is 20 years old and has reached the end of its useful service life.
Per the City of Gaithersburg, “Due to its age, condition and safety considerations, it was scheduled for replacement in the FY 24 Budget.” The City plans to replace the playground at Lakelands Park in two phases. The first phase will be to close the playground to remove all the old playground equipment and to prepare the site to rough grade conditions. There will be elevation changes in the re-design of the playground. This first phase will be performed by City Staff and will last approximately four weeks.
Immediately following the completion of the first phase, the second phase will begin with the Contractor mobilizing to the site and preparing the site to final grade, installing all the new playground equipment, installing borders and playground safety surfacing. This second phase will last approximately three weeks. The plan calls for closing Lakelands Park Playground on August 15. “We are planning on reopening the playground on September 27, 2024.” Photo by Google Maps
