The Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos shared the news of a child with autism being rescued from a lake by a police officer and lifeguard at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in White Oak on Wednesday.
Per Cokinos, “Earlier today [Wednesday] an @mcpnews 3rd District officer, along with an MLK park lifeguard from a nearby pool, entered the large lake at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
A non-verbal autistic child entered the water prompting a 911 call. Officers quickly responded and were able to rescue the child from the lake and bring him to safety.
Excellent job and quick thinking by responding officers and many thanks to the lifeguards who ran down to help the officers.” Photo courtesy Google Maps
