Police Officer Injured in Gaithersburg During Pursuit of Felony Shoplifting Suspects Linked to Multiple Thefts at Rio/Crown

A Gaithersburg police officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a fleeing driver involved in two shoplifting incidents on Monday afternoon.


According to the Gaithersburg Police Department, “On August 12 at 4:50 p.m., police were responding to the to the Dick’s Sporting Goods located in the unit block of Grand Corner Avenue for the report of a felony shoplifting that just occurred involving two female suspects. As police were arriving, they were advised that the two female suspects exited the store and entered a silver sedan with a male driver.

A second call for a felony shoplifting was reported at the Lululemon located in the 100 block of Crown Park Avenue with the same suspects and silver sedan involved. Based on both felony thefts, officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle. While doing so, the driver of the silver sedan, struck an officer by driving over their leg, and fleeing the scene.

The officer was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
