Back in May we let you know that Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant was coming to 4862 Cordell Ave in Bethesda, the former site of Momo Chicken. The restaurant announced via social media that it’s now open for lunch and dinner.
“We’re excited to bring the taste of Ukraine to Bethesda! Join us this week for a delicious lunch or dinner, and help us enhance our service with your feedback. Welcome to our Bethesda location!” Ruta also has a location at 327 7th St in SE Washington, DC. Menu items include Varenyky (Ukrainian dumplings), Chicken Kyiv, Meat Holubtsi (meat stuffed cabbage with sour cream), and much more.
According to its website, ““Ruta” is not just a beautifully sounding word, it’s also a wonderful flower from ancient Ukrainian myths and legends. The legends and tales of the Carpathians tell that the real “Red Ruta” is a yellow flower, and only on a magical night of Ivana Kupala it turns flaming red for just a few minutes. The legend also says that the lucky one who finds the flower and plucks it during those few minutes will find true love. We hope our “Ruta” becomes your true love”
