Fire Causes $1M in Damage; Woman Hospitalized After Nearby Incident

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at Casa Furniture (8701 Flower Ave) in Silver Spring on Saturday, September 7.

The estimated damage is around $1,000,000, including $600,000 to the building and $300,000 in contents. The fire started in a storage room, and the cause is under investigation. Fire officials report that no fire-related injuries occurred.

According to police, “At approximately 11:15 p.m., MCPD and Fire Rescue Personnel responded to the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road for a box alarm. Upon arrival, officers found an adult woman in the nearby area suffering from an unknown injury. She was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.” It is unclear at this time if the incidents are related.
