Under the Lights: Free Drop-in Sports Event for Teens Takes Place October 8th

Montgomery Parks and the Montgomery County Department of Recreation are inviting young people to have fun and show off their sports skills, at the free Under the Lights: Drop-In Play event at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park in Silver Spring.

The free program is open to middle and high school students who are interested in playing pick-up flag football and soccer games. All equipment will be provided by the Montgomery County Department of Recreation.

This event is a great opportunity for young athletes of all skill levels to spend a fall evening playing under the lights on a highquality sports field,” said Darren Flusche, deputy director of Montgomery Parks. “This idea was inspired by high school students who requested more opportunities to play under the lights.”

“This program provides an invaluable opportunity for kids who may not otherwise have access to such high-quality facilities unless enrolled on a team,” said Adriane Clutter, division chief for Montgomery County Recreation. It’s a significant benefit for the entire community, fostering both youth development and community engagement.”

No registration is required for the Under the Lights: Drop-In Play event. Players just have to show up ready to have fun. The games will take place on the lighted synthetic turf football field.
