“Hocus Pocus” has enchanted audiences as a Halloween classic for decades, but did you know there’s a fascinating connection to Montgomery County (MoCo) in the beloved 1993 film?
While it’s not as grand as the Sanderson sisters graduating from a local high school, it’s certainly a delightful tidbit for fans. Sean Murray, the actor who brought Thackery Binx to life– both as a charming cat and later as a young man– was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Although Murray spent much of his childhood moving between various military bases due to his family’s service, his early years in MoCo give him a unique local tie. Beyond his iconic role in “Hocus Pocus,” Murray has made a name for himself as Special Agent Timothy McGee on the long-running hit series “NCIS” and as Danny Walden in the military drama “JAG.”
His versatility as an actor and his connection to the area only add to the charm of his storied career. So, this Halloween, as you gather your friends for a screening of “Hocus Pocus,” you can impress them with this fun MoCo fact!
