Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a basement fire in a single-family home on Burnt Mills Ave, near Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Monday morning.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire was quickly brought under control, with all occupants safely evacuated and no injuries reported. The fire, which originated in the basement, was detected by a smoke alarm, prompting the occupants to evacuate. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Damage is estimated to exceed $225,000, including $150,000 to the structure and $75,000 to the contents. Five adults have been displaced, and the Red Cross, along with the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS), is providing assistance.
Some nearby roads, including Route 29, were temporarily blocked due to the incident. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
