In the early hours of the morning, a resident in the Bethesda area alerted authorities to a potentially dangerous situation unfolding in their neighborhood. While many were settling in for the night, the midnight shift officers received a call about a suspicious individual attempting to break a window at a local business. This timely tip-off would soon lead to a series of events culminating in the arrest of the suspect, according to a social media post by District 2 Commander Amy Daum of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
Shortly after the initial report, another business in the area contacted police to report a man who had entered through their back door and was attempting to steal a safe. The quick actions of the business staff, who promptly notified the police, prevented what could have been a significant loss.
Responding to the calls, MCPD Officer Baxter was able to spot the suspect near another local establishment. Thanks to the alertness of both the residents and business owners, the situation was de-escalated before it turned into a more serious crime spree.
Upon investigating further, Officer Baxter and his team arrested the suspect, who was subsequently searched. During this process, officers discovered stolen property linked to another burglary at a nearby business. This find led to multiple burglary charges.
