Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a single-family house on Elm Ave. in Takoma Park on Sunday, December 1.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated in the basement of the home and was likely electrical in nature. Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the scene, which had heavy smoke, arcing electrical wires, and excessive storage/clutter.
PEPCO secured power, and no injuries were reported. Three adults and one dog were displaced, with the house sustaining significant damage. In an update at 11p Sunday night, Piringer stated that electrical wiring malfunction overheated and ignited combustibles causing $160K in damage.
