Renovations Will Begin in January at Ellsworth Urban Dog Park

Montgomery Parks will renovate the Ellsworth Urban Dog Park located in Ellsworth Urban Park in Silver Spring beginning in early January 2025.

According to Montgomery Parks, the project will include building a retaining wall along the perimeter of the large dog park, as well as making improvements to the walkway outside the large dog park and the dog park entrance.

The renovation was initially slated to start in mid-November 2024 but has been pushed back due to procurement delays. The dog park will be closed for approximately six months, during which time, the ADA parking spaces in front of the shade structure, the sidewalk next to the dog park, along Route 29, and the sidewalk surrounding the dog park will be inaccessible.

Montgomery Parks manages nine dog parks including several located down county, within reasonable proximity to the Ellsworth Urban Dog Park. Nearby dog parks are located at Takoma Piney Branch Local Park, Cabin John Regional Park, Wheaton Regional Park, and Dewey Local Park.

The Ellsworth Urban Dog Park includes two separate, fully enclosed, accessible dog areas, one for small dogs (under 20 pounds) and one for large dogs (over 20 pounds). All dog owners must adhere to Montgomery Parks’ Dog Park Rules and Regulations.
