Montgomery County Animal Shelter to Host Fee-Waived ‘Home for the Holidays’ Adoption Event

Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center will host a waived-fee adoption event, “Home for the Holidays,” on Dec. 14 and 15 to help find homes for pets and clear the shelter for the holiday season.

Per the news release, “Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) will hold a waived-fee adoption event for all pets Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and Dec. 15.  The ‘Home for the Holidays’ event aims to clear the shelter for the holidays. The Animal Services and Adoption Center is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.

Beginning Saturday, Dec. 7, schedule an appointment to reduce wait times. Walk-ins are subject to counselor availability.

“We’ve seen an uptick in our animal population, and we hope this event will help us clear the shelters. We have so many wonderful pets and each of them deserves a warm, cozy home in time for the holidays,” said Maria Anselmo, community relations manager for MSASAC.

The Center recommends that adopters check the website frequently for available pets to ensure that the pet they are interested in is available for adoption.

Adopters should be prepared to take an animal home at the end of their appointment by bringing a leash and collar for dogs and a carrier for cats or small animals. No holds will be placed in the interest of finding as many homes as possible for pets.

MCASAC hours of operation can be found at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/animalservices.

MCASAC is operated by the Office of Animal Services and is the County’s only open-admission municipal shelter. Through adoptions, education and outreach, MCASAC serves as a critical community resource to promote and advocate responsible pet care. Animal Services officers are available seven days a week / 24 hours a day to investigate complaints and respond to animal emergencies.
