Board of Education Will Continue Posting on X (Formerly Twitter) After Initial Decision to Stop

The Montgomery County Board of Education has annnounced that it will continue posting on X (formerly Twitter) as it continued to expand its social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky.

The announcement came on Wednesday afternoon, a day after a Tuesday post on X stated that the Board of Education will no longer be posting on the platform and encouraging residents to follow on the other social media platforms.

Though reasoning for the initial decision to leave was not provided by MCPS, “people are quitting X, formerly Twitter, in droves, citing toxic rhetoric and the platform’s new terms of service as reasons for deleting the social media platform”, according to Forbes.

The post on Tuesday stated that “The Montgomery County Board of Education will no longer post on X, formerly Twitter. We encourage you to follow us on Bluesky, Instagram, and Facebook. Thank you.The follow up post on Wednesday stated thatWe have heard from many of you that you receive your information on X and we want to assure you that we will continue posting here. As we expand our social media presence, please follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky.

The Board of Education (@MocoBOE) has approximately 9.6K followers on X, which is the largest following it has on any platform. The response to the decision to remain on X was generally positive, with several X users thanking the Board of Education for making the decision to stay on the platform.
