Daylight Saving Time (DST) always begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Many often use the expressions, “spring forward” and “fall back” to help explain which way the clocks are moving. FOX 5 meteorologist Mike Thomas shared a few changes that we would see if President-elect Donald Trump’s statement on eliminating DST.
A bill to end Daylight Saving Time, called the Sunshine Protection Act, passed the Senate in 2022, but stalled in the House and later expired. While there were many who supported and opposed the bill, an end to Daylight Saving Time didn’t appear imminent.
Last Friday, President-elect Trump wrote, “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.”
If it were to happen, Thomas shared that Standard Time (SDT) would provide the earliest DC Sunrise at 4:42am in mid-June. The latest DC Sunrise would be at 7:28am in early January. The earliest DC Sunset would occur at 4:45pm in mid December, and the latest DC Sunset would be at 7:38pm in late June.
