The Charcuterie Board Club Brings Northwood Students Together

MCPS recently highlighted a new club at Northwood High School at Woodward– the Charcuterie Board Club. Students are forging meaningful connections with one another while perfecting their cheese, cracker, and meat pairings.

“We wanted to create a welcoming space where people can come together and make memories,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, the club’s coordinator and a senior at Northwood at Woodward. “High school can be overwhelming and stressful, so we aimed to bring in a breath of fresh air.”

In the club, students design charcuterie boards, each featuring a unique theme, for their peers to enjoy while learning about various spreads. Originally conceived by students as a cheese club, the charcuterie club was established to provide an opportunity for sharing food and fostering camaraderie.

Club president and senior Ivan Estrada noted the sense of community that blossomed through the creation of the boards and the events they hosted. “As we spoke with more students and saw an increasing interest in our events, we decided to craft larger, more inclusive charcuterie boards that cater to diverse dietary needs,” Estrada explained. “This expansion allowed us to connect with even more people, and over the past year, I’ve met many inspiring individuals from different backgrounds.”

A major highlight for the club is witnessing students’ reactions to the beautifully arranged boards, according to Maya Mendez, senior and vice president of the club. “The joy on their faces when they see the boards we put together the day before is incredibly rewarding,” Mendez shared. “Their compliments mean a lot to us.”

Estrada also expressed hopes for increased community engagement in the club’s future, envisioning events that bring together local community members, leaders, and government representatives. “Our club is all about building community and making connections,” said Punch Kladkdemthong, senior and treasurer of the club. “Collaborating and working together strengthens friendships and creates lasting bonds.”
