This past summer we let you know that EDENS/Burtonsville Crossing has announced that “Playa Bowls will bring never ending summer to Burtonsville Crossing with delicious smoothies, açaí bowls, cold brews, and juices.” The shop owners were recently issued a $250k permit to construct the interior.
Based on the rendering shared (seen below), the store will be located next to Ulta on the TJ Maxx side. Playa Bowls was founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, and “born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii.” They offer Açaí Bowls, Pitaya, Coconut Bowls, smoothies, and more. An opening in the first half of 2025 looks likely.
The company has opened multiple locations in the DC Metro area in recent years. In Montgomery County, they have opened in Potomac, MD (Cabin John Village), Kensington (Knowles Station), Olney (Fair Hill), Gaithersburg (known as Playa Bowls Darnestown), and most recently in Chevy Chase.
