Kings Dominion Bids Farewell to Anaconda Roller Coaster

Kings Dominion has been a cherished destination for thrill-seekers and families alike, and one of its standout attractions, the Anaconda roller coaster, has officially closed its doors after more than three decades of exhilarating rides. It is slated to be demolished, per KD Fans. Situated in the Jungle X-Pedition section of the park, Anaconda has left an indelible mark on the hearts of visitors since it first opened in 1991.

Constructed by Arrow Dynamics and designed by the renowned Ron Toomer, Anaconda was groundbreaking for its time. It made history as the first looping roller coaster to feature an underwater tunnel, captivating riders with its unique design. Additionally, Anaconda was Kings Dominion’s first coaster to include multiple inversions, setting the stage for a new era of thrill rides.

Riders who dared to take the plunge experienced the sensation of being wrapped in the coils of the Anaconda as they dropped a staggering 144 feet into the depths of this iconic ride. With 2,700 feet of track, thrill-seekers rocketed through the coaster at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour, navigating sharp twists, turns, and a thrilling 360-degree vertical loop immediately after emerging from the underwater tunnel.

Anaconda quickly became a long-time favorite among park visitors and roller coaster enthusiasts. Its unique features and exhilarating experience made it one of the most photographed rides at Kings Dominion, drawing countless memories and snapshots from thrill-seekers eager to capture their adventure.

To ride Anaconda, guests needed to meet a height requirement of 48 inches, allowing many to join in on the excitement. The coaster’s adrenaline-pumping design and immersive experience made it a staple attraction for families and friends looking to share an unforgettable day at the park.

As Kings Dominion bids farewell to Anaconda, it leaves behind a legacy of thrilling memories and a dedicated fan base. While new coasters are planned for 2025, a direct replacement for the Anaconda has not yet been named. The joy it brought to so many will be remembered fondly for years to come. Thank you, Anaconda, for the unforgettable rides and the thrills you provided. You’ll be missed!
