Heavy Snow Chances Remain For Entire Area on Monday

We are now within 72 hours and it still looks like we have pretty solid snow storm heading our way. I would expect a Winter Storm Watch to be issued this evening after the advisory ends at 7pm. A Winter Storm Warning then becomes very possible as we get closer to the event, which is expected to take place late Sunday and Monday.

The GFS (American model) showed the storm trending north until its most recent run where it puts our area back in the “bullseye.” The Euro (European model) has had the major part to the south of us and continued with that notion in this afternoon’s run. The Euro is generally regarded as the more reliable model, but we’ll see if one solution wins out over the other or if they kind of meet in the middle.

The National Weather Service (NWS) uses the National Blend of Models (NBM) to come up with their snow projections and right now it’s showing about 6-8 inches for most of the area (Montgomery County, Frederick County, Loudoun County, DC, and others. The current map the NWS has issued only shows potential snow totals until 7am Monday and most of our snow would likely come at the time or later– so we may have to wait until tonight for a snowfall map that covers the entire storm.
