National Weather Service Increases Projected Snowfall For Monday’s Storm, Winter Storm Watch Issued

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued, in effect from Sunday evening through late Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) has also updated its projected snow totals to show 6-8” for a good portion of the area, with sprinkled in areas of 8-12”.

Per the NWS, “Heavy snow possible, with potential for some sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 5 inches or greater and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch possible. A localized band with up to 10 inches of snow is possible.

From Sunday evening through late Monday night. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.” The “high end amount” and “low end amount” maps can be seen below. High end shows over a foot of snow possible for an area that includes most of Montgomery County and low end shows anywhere from 1 inch for areas north like Frederick to 4 inches for DC.
