The National Weather Service (NWS) has expanded the Winter Storm Warning to include portions of Montgomery, Howard, and Loudoun counties. A Winter Weather Advisory was also issued for the other half of Montgomery, Howard, and Loudoun counties as well as DC, Prince George’s County, and other surrounding areas.
Per the NWS, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7am until 7pm Sunday. Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact travel. Snow will overspread the area Sunday morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off during the evening. Snowfall rates could approach 1 inch an hour at times. The Winter Weather Advisory is for 2-4 inches of snow.
NWS: “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.”
