The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Storm Watch for parts of the area. As of 9am Saturday morning, the warning area nearby includes Frederick County, Carroll County, and a portion of Loudoun County. The Watch area inckudes Northwest Montgomery County (including areas like Germantown, Poolesville, Clarksburg, Damascus).
The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7am until 7pm on Sunday. Per the NWS, “Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact travel. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Snow will overspread the area Sunday morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off during the evening. Snowfall rates could approach 1 inch an hour at times.”
The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 7am Sunday morning until 9pm Sunday night. Per the NWS, “Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations around 5 inches possible. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.” The Watch will likely turn into a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory later today and may expand to include additional areas (including all of Montgomery County).
