Sunday’s storm didn’t bring as much as forecasted by most for the immediate area, but has left a few neighborhood streets and sidewalks slushy. The bitter cold in the morning along with the potential for anything wet or slushy to freeze may cause some school systems to have a delayed opening.
With a Cold Weather Advisory going into effect at 7pm tonight until 10am Tuesday morning and then again from 10pm on Tuesday until 10am Thursday. Wind chills below zero are expected. The cold on its own would not likely delay the opening of schools, but the possibility of lingering icy conditions with the cold could be enough to do it for some school systems.
As of now, Howard County has already announced a delay for Tuesday, January 21st. Howard County saw similar snow totals of a half inch to 3 inches from Sunday’s storm. We will continue to monitor conditions as the sun goes down and things begin to freeze.
