Student Arrested and Charged as Adult Following Stabbing at Tuscarora High School

On January 22, 2025, The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office arrested 17-year-old Zain Mahmood, of Frederick, MD, in the assault of another 16-year-old student at Tuscarora High School. On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m., deputies were called to the high school for reports of an altercation involving two students in the hallway. School resource officers quickly responded to the altercation and assisted staff in effectively intervening.

Per the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office: “Initially, school staff and deputies believed the incident to be an assault between the two students. Administrators sent the suspect home following the altercation. Additional investigation revealed that Mahmood slashed and stabbed the other student several times with a sharp or bladed object during the incident.  EMS responded to the scene and the injured student was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies later found Mahmood at his home, and he was taken into custody without incident. The suspect is charged as an adult and is being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. He is charged with the following:

-1st Degree Assault

-2nd Degree Assault

-Reckless Endangerment

-Dangerous Weapon on School Property

-Disturbing School Operations

-Affray – Fighting in Public Space
