The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division released body-worn camera footage from a December 24, 2024, police-involved in-custody death in Gaithersburg, where a man died after being restrained and receiving emergency medical treatment.
Per the news release: “The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General today released body-worn camera footage from the police-involved in-custody death in Montgomery County involving the Gaithersburg Police Department that occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The decedent was previously identified as 35-year-old Marvin Salamanca Garcia. The Independent Investigations Division continues to investigate the circumstances of the police involved in-custody death.”
This stems from an incident in which the Gaithersburg Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 300blk N. Summit Avenue on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at approximately 10:15pm, where they found a blood-covered man who later died in the hospital after receiving emergency medical treatment. Gaithersburg police wrote “The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) is investigating a police-involved in-custody death following an incident on December 24.”
According to police, “Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male lying on the ground in front of an apartment building. The man was covered in blood, conscious, and acting erratically. The man then stood up and walked away from the apartment building. The officers recognized the man required medical treatment, so they held him while they provided life-saving measures, to include the deployment of an AED, until Fire Rescue responded and transported the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
